My name is Thomas Urban, I love nature, snowboarding, hiking and when I discovered the art of Bonsai, I was hooked. I could have the mountains and elements of nature at home! 9 years ago I moved from Seattle, WA USA to Brno, Czech Republic. I had to start this hobby all over again but before I could really get back into it I did a lot of reading and tried to get myself up to speed with what the pros are doing, the styles they have and most importantly how to keep the trees alive and healthy. The artists that currently inspire me are but not in any particular order: Ryan Neil, Lukas Sirotny, Todd Schlafer, Jan Culek, Pavel Slovak, Peter Warren, Vaclav Novak, Nik Rozman, Walter Pall, Michael Hagedorn, Graham Potter, Mauro Stemberger, Bjorn Bjorholm, Michael Tran, Libor Slatinka, Milan Karpisek, Adam Jones and several others. Of course the Japanese trail blazers as well, like Masahiko Kimura, Shinji Suzuki, Kunio Kobayashi, Minoru Akiyama and others.
I’ve been buying ceramics from the likes of Jakub Malcharek and Jiri Svacina but would like to have pieces from other potters like Tom Benda.
I also belong to an interesting group of folks who call themselves the Arbor Arts Collective, check them out: arborartscollective.blogspot.com
I hope to meet some of you at exhibitions and I would like to thank you most of all, for checking out my work.
I use and recommend Zoner Photo Studio X for editing and organizing your photographs and progressions of trees. Try it free for a month here: https://www.zoner.to/Bonsaibrno
